The Collaboratory for Interprofessional Authorship in Dermatology (CIAD, pronounced sci-ad) is a platform that connects early-career medical professionals to experienced scholars, for mentorship in the art of writing for scientific peer-reviewed publications. Our authors have been published in every major American dermatology journal and several international journals, and work with budding clinician-scholars to overcome barriers to publication.
How it works:
Healthcare professionals or students with an interest in writing for peer-reviewed dermatology journals apply for mentorship, on a specific subject of their own choosing. Topics must be related to medical or surgical dermatology (not cosmetics/aesthetics). Applicants new to the peer-review process are encouraged to start with a single case report as an initial undertaking. We also accept mentorship and collaboration requests on a variety of article formats (case series, research letters, other), and for grant proposals related to dermatology.
If accepted by our panel, CIAD provides mentorship in developing the writing project, to whatever extent is needed by the applicant, including manuscript drafting and submission to peer-reviewed journals.
No funds are exchanged, but CIAD mentors are either acknowledged or listed as co-authors on the final publication, depending on extent of mentorship/collaboration and as mutually agreed upon by the mentee prior to journal submission.
Who should apply: Our primary focus is medical students applying to dermatology residency, and dermatology NPs/PAs. We also accept proposals from NP/PA students and other professionals with an interest in medical or surgical dermatology.
If English is your second language, we can help you with the spelling, grammar, and flow of your article before you submit it for publication.
Note: CIAD is exclusively dedicated to research and writing in peer reviewed medical journals. We are not an advocacy organization or professional society with formal membership.
